SHCC Student Swims in Nationals!
The week of July 25-29 Caitlynn Moon went to Atlanta, GA to participate in the YMCA Long Course Nationals Meet. She had qualified to swim 6 events and improved her time in every event. Caitlynn placed 19th in the 1500 meter freestyle, 46th in the 400 meter free, 25th in the 400 meter free relay, 12th in the 800 meter free, 65th in the 200 butterfly, and 7th in the 800 free relay. Her 1500, 800, and 800 relay events earned her awards and a place on the podium. This also resulted in her being named National All American 3 times. Congratulations Caitlynn!
REMINDER: Parent/Teacher/Student Meeting
The 2011-2012 Parent/Teacher/Student meeting will take place Saturday, August 20, 2011, at 7 P.M. at Sacred Heart Classical Center, 1840 Windsor Road, Loves Park.

Patriot's Pen Winner!
Collin Moon, son of Mitch and Karen Moon, was a first place winner in the Patriot's Pen Contest sponsored by the Loves Park Veterans of Foreign Wars!!!
Collin advanced to the District competition. He and his family were guests at the VFW District Banquet on Saturday, January 8, 2011.

SHCC Students in National Swimming Competition
Three SHCC students competed at the Illinois/Missouri Area swimming competition the weekend of March 19-20, 2011.
Cole Moon finished 5th place in the 100 Individual Medley, 5th place in the 50 Butterfly, and 10th place in the 100 Freestyle. He was also a member of the Dekalb County Swim Team's 9-10 Boys Medley Relay which placed 4th.
Collin Moon was a member of the team's 11-12 Boys Freestyle Relay which finished in 10th place.
Caitlynn Moon had a strong performance, finishing in 2nd place in both the 200 and 500 Freestyles and 6th in the 200 Individual Medley. She also teamed up with 3 other girls for the team's 13-14 Girls Freestyle Relay which finished in 7th place. With her exceptional performance at the State meet, Caitlynn qualified to swim at the National level. The YMCA National Swim Meet was held April 4 -8 in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Caitlynn finished 88th in the 500 free, 40th in the 1000 free, and her top finish was a 34th in the 1650 Freestyle.
Winners of Voice of Democracy Contest at District Level!
Rebekah Richert, daughter of Scott and Amy Richert, placed 2nd, and Julia Grzenia, daughter of Jerry and Adriene Grzenia, placed 11th at the Voice of Democracy District 6 Banquet in Dixon on Saturday, January 8, 2011. There were several hundred participating students.
Congratulations to Rebekah and Julia!!!
Student Supply List for 2010-2011
The following is the list of supplies that each student will require for the 2010-2011 school year.
- 2 packs loose leaf notebook paper or bound, perforated notebooks.
- 2 black or blue ink pens
- 2 erasers
- 2 three hole folders in different colors
- 1 ruler (6 inch preferred)
- 1 three-ringed, zippered pencil case
- 1 plain three-ringed (loose leaf) notebook
- 1 pack three-ringed notebook dividers (if notebook does not come with them)
- 1 assignment book This is a full-size, spiral notebook.
- 3 packs #2 pencils. No plastic pencils. Must be wooden pencils
- 1 small, plastic pencil sharpener
- 1 scissors
- 1 box heavy duty markers (optional for High School)
- 1 spiral notebook per history class
- 9 regular mail postage stamps (for correspondence we have to mail because students forget to give it to their parents)
- 4 reams copy paper
- If you purchase any items at Office Depot, kindly tell the clerk to credit our Center. We are listed on their forms as "Our Lady Classical." Please make sure your purchases are NOT credited to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Academy.
SHCC Used Uniform Sale at August Meeting
If you are interested in selling your gently used, outgrown uniforms, please bring them at 6:30 P.M. before the parent meeting on August 28th to lay them out on tables. Please pin a small envelope to the item with your full name (for those writing checks), the amount you’d like to charge, a description of the item, and size. Example:

$6 boy’s blue shirt size: large youth
The buyer will insert the amount you request and leave the envelope with payment in a box or manila envelope you provide with your name on it. This will work best if you bring lots of five and one dollar bills with you to use as payment. You can shop for items among other sellers and then check your box/envelope before the meeting starts or after it ends.

SHCC Student Excels in 1500 Meter Freestyle
Caitlynn Moon swam her best ever this weekend and made a NATIONAL cut in the 1500 meter freestyle. She dropped 32 seconds to make the cut!
Minor Changes in Parent Volunteer Program Coming
Shortly, Mr. Brunner will announce a few changes to the Parent Volunteer Program.

SHCC's New Facility
The address of SHCC's convenient new location is 1840 Windsor Road, Loves Park.
The entrance and parking for the building is in the REAR at the far eastern section.
Parents are urged to check out the new place!
No appointment is needed.
Mr. Brunner is usually at SHCC from 9 until noon, Mondays through Fridays, until classes begin.
Math Placement Tests for 2010-2011
SHCC now requires a Math Placement Test for new students who wish to enroll in Pre-Algebra (Introductory Algebra), Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry. This also holds true for current SHCC students who might have taken a vacation from Math last year. Please contact Michael Brunner to schedule your students' Math Placement Test.

Rockford Women's Club Creative Writing Contest Winners Honored
Julia Grzenia and Christine Petersen, our winners in the Rockford Women's Club Creative Writing Contest, received certificates and their $50 awards at a luncheon presentation on March 9, 2010.
Rockford mayor Larry Morrisey and District 205 superintendent Lavonne Sheffield were in attendance.
Scripps National Spelling Bee Winners Move on to State
Our three Spelling Bee winners have skipped the District and Regional Spelling Bees and are eligible to participate in the State Spelling Bee on April 10 at noon in Chatham, IL.

Veterans of Foreign Wars—Loves Park Post
Sacred Heart Classical Center is pleased to announce that Nicholas Jones, son of Michael and Linda Jones, was a 1st place winner at the Loves Park VFW Post level!!!
Nicholas was among more than 140 winners from Northern Illinois who advanced to the VFW District level in Dixon, IL.

SHCC Students' Lenten Project
Sacred Heart Classical Center students are participating in the Baby Bottle fundraiser for the Women's Center of Chicago, which has saved over 50,000 babies from abortion over the past two decades.
Students will fill their Baby Bottles with sacrificial donations of loose change throughout Lent and will return them to SHCC on April 7.
We are hoping to top last year's figure of $550 !
